Another repeat research finding? That performance reviews, as they're usually conducted, are pretty close to useless.  Performance reviews may be useless, but business owners still need to know how their employees are doing. So what's the solution? I've written about nearly as many performance review alternatives as I have negative performance review studies over the years, but I recently came across the simplest, most promising suggestion yet from 37signals co-founder and CEO Jason Fried.  Writing on his blog, Fried focuses on the question of how best to review new hires. But there's no reason his insight can't be expanded to give managers a quick and dirty -- but still basically accurate -- sense of the overall performance of any employee. Fried argues that rather than hire an employee once, you should actually hire them multiple times.  Continued here TikTok Creators' Financial Info, Social Security Numbers Have Been Stored In China - Forbes    Over the past several years, thousands of TikTok creators and businesses around the world have given the company sensitive financial information—including their social security numbers and tax IDs—so that they can be paid by the platform. But unbeknownst to many of them, TikTok has stored that personal financial information on servers in China that are accessible by employees there, Forbes has learned. TikTok uses various internal tools and databases from its Beijing-based parent ByteDance to manage payments to creators who earn money through the app, including many of its biggest stars in the United States and Europe. The same tools are used to pay outside vendors and small businesses working with TikTok. But a trove of records obtained by Forbes from multiple sources across different parts of the company reveals that highly sensitive financial and personal information about those prized users and third parties has been stored in China. The discovery also raises questions about whether employees who are not authorized to access that data have been able to. Yes, NASA scientists find most parts submerging -     Scientists found most of the New York City metropolitan area is slowly sinking, making the region riskier to flooding, according to a study published this week. A team of scientists from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California and Rutgers University in New Jersey published the study in Science Advances. They found the major metro area is sinking by an average of 0.06 inches per year. The study came as New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency Friday, with heavy rain causing flash floods in Manhattan, Staten Island and Brooklyn. Continued here
