Joseline de Lima was wandering the dusty alleys of her working-class neighborhood in the capital of Togo one day last year, when a disturbing thought crossed her mind: Who would take care of her two boys if her depression worsened and she were no longer around to look after them? Ms. de Lima, a single mother who was grieving the recent death of her brother and had lost her job at a bakery, knew she needed help. "The swashbuckling entrepreneur of popular imagination is just a myth and rarely succeeds," Shaich writes in his new book, "Know What Matters: Lessons from a Lifetime of Transformations." Shaich co-founded Au Bon Pain in 1981, of which Panera Bread was later just a division. In 1998, he sold off most of the business (including Au Bon Pain) except for Panera to make the brand the company's focus. Read part one, part two, part three, part four and part five. When I wrote my series on why Americans are moving away from organized religion, I didn’t focus specifically on those under 30, even though I knew they were the least religiously affiliated. I wanted to tell the full story that included different age groups because in recent decades, all age groups have seen a decline in religious participation. The sociological term for the unaffiliated is “nones,” a catchall for atheists, agnostics and those who say they have no religion in particular. I also thought that for the youngest adults, the move away from traditional worship was just an extension of the overall trend: a combination of fewer of them being raised by religious parents, a greater social acceptance of not identifying as a person of faith and a cultural association between conservative political beliefs and Christianity that started years before the first Zoomer was born. Continued here � � � � � � At Meta, Millions of Underage Users Were an 'Open Secret,' States Say - The New York Times    Meta “routinely documented” children under 13 on Instagram and collected their data, according to a newly unsealed complaint. Meta has received more than 1.1 million reports of users under the age of 13 on its Instagram platform since early 2019 yet it “disabled only a fraction” of those accounts, according to a newly unsealed legal complaint against the company brought by the attorneys general of 33 states. Instead, the social media giant “routinely continued to collect” children’s personal information, like their locations and email addresses, without parental permission, in violation of a federal children’s privacy law, according to the court filing. Meta could face hundreds of millions of dollars, or more, in civil penalties should the states prove the allegations. Continued here
