Long-stay holiday packages, "workations" and digital nomad visas are among the routes by which travellers are seeking an escape.
However, for break with a little more permanence, one of Europe's faded villages or towns could offer an alternative - albeit with a heavy chunk of admin for non-EU citizens - or perhaps somewhere further afield, say Vermont or Chile.
